In a post about kids digital cameras I wrote a while ago I wasn’t that impressed with them. But I have recently had a look at the new Vtech Kidizoom Video Camera and I must say it is actually a fun toy for kids to play with.

I’ll come clean here and say that I haven’t actually bought this and will probably not buy it but this is not because the Vtech Kidizoom Video Camera is poor but more because none of my own children are young enough to for it. I got to play with it after my brother got one for his son who is two now and forever crying to play with his video camera, so this seem like a perfect purchase.

Little Liam seems more than pleased with his Vtech Kidizoom Video Camera but for us adults what’s the bottom line, I mean what do we get for our money? The first thing you will notice is its tough design that will take a bit of hammering, a good thing considering there is no writ strap for this videoa camera. Given it’s shape I did think one would have been supplied but none was attached to the camara I had, maybe there is one and had yet to be attached. The actual operation of the unit is pretty basic with an on off button that will not only record videos but will take photos as well. There is an editing feature for both but haven’t had a look at them but I can assume Liam won’t be using them that much. The 256MB internal memory isn’t that great but you can increase the memory with a SD card that can be bought quite cheap these days.

I enjoyed the digital zoom feature which does about x4 zoom and found it really easy to use but did notice Liam had some issues getting this to work. Maybe it was his co-ordination at this age that made it difficult but I’m sure with practice he will be fine at using the zoom.

To view what your actually recording is a 1.8in colour screen, just big enough in my opinion to see things clearly. In general I like the Vtech Kidizoom Video Camera and one thing i’m sure most paernts will be happy with is the fact that it is avaiable in both blue and pink. One thing I have found across the years is that if you buy them a present it had better be pink for the girls and blue for the boys. This will make the Vtech Video Camera a gift they will absolutly love.
